How do I get digital audio out of my new m1 MacBook Pro?

Does the headphone jack accept that special spdif connector plug that the old MacBook pros had? If its only via HDMI how can I get multitrack into a usb digital audio mixer?

The headphone jack on M1 Macs does not support digital audio out.

You can use a USB to SPDIF audio adpater, or as you mention an HDMI audio breakout box to get the digital audio portion from the HDMI signal.

Also, I suspect that because there is no audio in on the new M1 MacBook pro's that they took that pro audio functionality away sadly because I thought you needed to have both spdif in and out connected to use the internal clock. I'm hoping that I can pass multitrack digital audio via a usb-c to usb connector or is there an HDMI break out box of some kind?
