Delete "System Data" Storage

Hi

I'm currently using a 128 GB MacBook Air (2019) and I just looked up my storage capacity and found out that 63 GB have been used for "System Data"

It took half of my storage capacity and I really want to delete some of these datas for future work.

How can I delete them? And what are the "System Data" purposes?

What is “Other” storage on a Mac, and how can I clean it out?

The final word from Apple on Managing the " Other " Category

  • Other: Contains files that don’t fall into the categories listed here. This category primarily includes files and data used by the system, such as log files, caches, VM files, and other runtime system resources. Also included are temporary files, fonts, app support files, and plug-ins. You can't manage the contents of this category. The contents are managed by macOS, and the category varies in size depending on the current state of your Mac.

Whatever version of macOS was installed before Big Sur occupied space, then an upgrade to Big Sur adds its operating system files and now the Monterey OS is installed.

The combination of three operating systems over time will use more and more space. That is until one reaches the condition this computer is in now.

Agree - it is worrisome and will require much effort on the Uses Part to keep the drive as clean as possible. And, yes - the computer should have never every been offered as new with a 128 GB Internal Drive.

Before this happened my internal drive was only used by 40 GB, and like, after I updated it to Big Sur, then used it for like, 2 months or so, the storage capacity was somehow fulled while what I was doing were only web browsing, social media-chatting and do video conferences.

I just hoped that updating it to Monterey would free my storage a bit, but I guessed it didn't.

Yes but and" must say But " - it would mean Wiping the Drive 100% of everything including the Operating System, Recovery Volume and all Personal Data and All Applications.

The real issue, as I see it - the Internal Drive is the tiny 128 GB SSD ( should have never been sold that way IMHO ) but it is what it is.

How the available Space is Managed is up to the user. One will be hard pressed to do much meaningful things on this small drive.
