Initial User Login Fails - Cannot Reset Password

I cannot reset the password on my Macbook Pro (M1 chip). Macbook user name and password are correct. When I try to reset using my AppleID it hangs. I've reinstalled the OS twice, including clearing all data. No luck. I booted into recovery mode and used the Terminal command "resetpassword" but I get this message: Reset Password Failed - Could not verify credentials b/c directory server does not support the requested authentication method."


Can someone help? Thx.

Jeff, thanks for your reply. I tried everything I could find in the Apple support articles but no luck. However, I found the answer after a lot of searching on the Internet. The instructions at the following link solved the problem. I ended up doing a DFU (Device Firmware Update) to the Macbook after connecting it to my Mac Mini using a USB-C cable and using Apple Configuator 2 software. I hope this helps others.
