You may have seen Apple One, which is a bundle of subscriptions, and includes Apple TV+.

You can subscribe to just Apple TV+ without the rest. Then don’t get Apple One, but get Apple TV+ on its own.

When you buy the Apple TV box, then that is just the streaming media player, without any bundle, without any access to subscription content. No bundles.

Apple does offer a free extended trial (to new subscribers) for their own streaming service “Apple TV+”, when you buy a new eligible device. That is optional.

Other services will have to be payed for separately.

or can I only choose TV?

Not sure what you mean by that.

To access linear “live” TV, you will need a subscription with a pay TV provider, either cable, or via your ISP, or independent internet streaming. For cable TV providers/ISP, check if your local cable company offers an app for the Apple TV box. For internet streaming TV providers in the US, check out Hulu+Live, YouTube TV, Sling TV, DirecTV Stream, fuboTV, Philo.

For over-the-air possibilities, check out HDHomeRun hardware and the Channels app to access that.

Perhaps the following will help explain:

Apple TV+ is $4.99 per month, everything else in the Apple TV app are additional charges. However you may qualify for a free 3 month promotional offer if you buy a qualifying device such as a new Apple TV or a Mac or iPhone. If you are unclear on what the difference is between Apple TV+ and what the Apple TV app is it's pretty simple.

  • The Apple TV app is simply a single place to buy content, including Apple TV+ content, Showtime, Paramount +, and lots of other content. The Apple TV app itself is 100% free.
  • Apple TV + is Apple's own proprietary content, currently it is a small library of content which is why it is inexpensive. The good news is the library is constantly growing and adding some pretty good content!

If you are still confused please visit www.apple.com/tv and look over Apple's TV offerings which include:

  • Apple TV HD (hardware)
  • Apple TV 4K (hardware)
  • Apple TV app (as described above)
  • Apple TV + (as described above)
  • AirPlay
  • Accessories
