.psf convert to jpg

I have photos that, for reasons I do not remember, were saved in a .psf format years ago on a PC. My MacBook won't open them, and Photoshop Elements does not recognize the file. How can I convert these to jpeg files? Assume little to no knowledge in your responses. Thank you!!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

Hi ATSF22,

Welcome to the Apple Community.

The Preview app is able to convert image files to .jpg.

You might want to try opening one of your photos in Preview.

This Apple support article may help:

Convert image file types using Preview on Mac:

https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/preview/prvw1012/mac

If all else fails

You might want to download the (Free for Private use) XNViewMP app. https://www.xnview.com/en/xnviewmp/

(NB: Scroll down and make sure you click on and download the Mac version)

Seems it can open and covert the .psf PhotoStudio files ok.

Hope this helps you:

Use a Duplicate File:

See what happens when you modify the extension. To do so safely, you'd duplicate the file then modify it extension.

First: Duplicate the File:

First, make a duplicate so that the original file is not lost. To do so:

  1. Right-Click on the icon
  2. Duplicate

Then: Rename It:

  1. Right Click: the duplicate psj file (file name ends in "copy")
  2. Select: Rename
  3. Change: the extension to jpg
  4. Click: Use .jpg button
