Apple Car Play does not work

I have an 11 pro with IOS 14. Apple Car Play works fine on my phone. My partner has the 12 Pro with the latest update (15.2) …. And Apple Car Play comes and goes. Most of the time won’t work at all. I think it’s IOS 15. What do we do to make it work, please?

If CarPlay isn't activated automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display. ... Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure CarPlay is enabled. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car and then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.

Thank you to everyone who has chimed in. I think the issue is the radio itself. My vehicle has a Kenwood 2017 system. I tried uploading a firmware update (which Kenwood states - “better Apple CarPlay stability” <— Ah Huh!! ) Tried … won’t take it. Next will be a car stereo specialist. Pain in the bum! Once that’s done, I hope it starts working.
