I'm gettin an error message: " Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder". I've plugged in my external Drive and don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder. I have a WD 4TB Ultra backup connected for my Time Machine backup. Every once in a while, it would give the message "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder." Now for the last 6 days it will not update and that is the message every time. Any insight? Thanks, Dan

Open Disk Utility & do a Disk 1st Aid on the external drive to start with...
