LG 27MD5KL-B display charging of 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro
Can I use a 27" LG 27MD5KL-B display (sold via Apple Store) that puts out 94W through the USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port to charge my new 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro that came with a 140W charger?

You can, but it will charge slower, and if you are doing a lot of work on the Mac, it may use more power than the display can supply,. which will cause it loose power instead of charge. No damage will come to the Mac however, by doing this.

Thank you for this information. Despite the connectors being the same, I'm always concerned about wattage differences and the impact of different charging profiles on the lifespan of lithium batteries. In other devices, such incompatibilities can lead to shortened battery life or even damage which is something I absolutely want to avoid.
