Right so basically I’m taking my friends old phone which has a broken button, he used the accessibility home button instead.
however when he gave the phone to me he erased it and did an Apple reset
this means that its on the “press home to open” button. Which I obviously can’t do

It was basically operating in a "make-do" condition that wasn't really intended for normal use.
