Video from iPhone 13 Pro too bright in iMovie

I recorded a movie on my new iPhone 13 Pro and it looked fine in the camera, but when I imported it to iMovie on my MacBook it looked WAY too bright and couldn't be fixed by fiddling with the contrast. It sounds like I needed to turn HDR off, which I've done now. Do I need to record the video again, or is there something I can do to the existing video on my phone to make it look right when I import it again? The video is an hour long, so I'd really prefer not to have to shoot it all again. Thanks!

Take a look at this thread, particularly the posts toward the end, and see if the solutions there work for you.

One solution that worked was to export the iPhone HDR file to the Mac Photo app, and from there export it as 4k from Photos to the Mac desktop, and from there import into iMovie. At least, that is my recollection. Best to read the thread for yourself.
