Apple app-specific password not working

I have an Amazon Alexa Echo and I am at the screen to enter my Apple ID and the generated password (and yes, two factor authentication is on). I input my Apple ID and the generated password but am unable to move forward (I don't get a specific error message, just the "sign in" button on the Alexa is greyed out and I can't move forward. Help!
