has anyone tried to connect the magic keyboard 12.9 to the iPad Air 4.

Its not physically possible.
The Camera cutout and the magnetic connector are in a position specific to the iPad Pro 12.9” and will not line up with any other iPad and as such prevent the correct connection to the keyboard.
