MagSafe Battery Pack Alignment Magnet

I have a iPhone 12 Mini with a clear Apple MagSafe case. I just got the MagSafe battery pack as a gift. The circular magnet connects fairly well. It charges the way I expected. However, I thought the the line below the circle magnet would ensure the proper a alignment of the battery pack. It does not. The battery pack is free to swivel in all directions instead of being securely snapped into place. Is that how it's designed?

To make sure it wasn't my phone, or my MagSafe case, I tried it on my wife's iPhone 13 mini. Same thing...

Since it was a gift, I don't have a receipt and it would be impossible to obtain. Will apple be able to exchange it for one that has all the magnets?

Hey pdm2byu,

Thanks for following up.

That does appear to be fake packaging, yes. And given the serial number is invalid, its almost certainly a counterfeit. In that case, we see you mentioned there's little chance at getting a receipt, but if you are still able to contact the seller, or have the gift giver contact the seller, that'd be the best chance at a refund.

Take care.

Hi pdm2byu,

We see you have some questions about the fit of the MagSafe Battery Pack on your iPhone.

To clarify, does the battery pack slide off on its own? For example if you pick your iPhone up, or hold it vertically etc does the pack slide off or move? If it does not, but it does move if you apply some pressure to either side of it, then it is most likely functioning as intended.

The magnets hold the charger to the iPhone but it is designed to be slid or taken off as needed. That said if you do feel it is defective, we'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support directly. The battery pack does come with a warranty, and Apple may be able to exchange it under warranty if it is defective.

Take care.

Thank you. After doing some more digging, it turns out the MagSafe I was given was a knock-off. Amazing amount of detail in the packaging. However, I noticed one tiny flaw… the Apple corporate address on the back said “Cupertion, CA”. Additionally, the serial number on the back did not match the serial number on the packaging. And when I entered into the Apple warranty page, it came up invalid. The MagSafe also wouldn’t show in the Settings>General>About.

In any case, thank you!
