Monterrey Mail app SQL Database error

The above error is non stop whenever Mail is running eating CPU, and it is all useless. Tried Rebuilding database on each account, OnyX, reinstalled MacOS, Disk repair, and turning off all mail accounts. Out of ideas :(

On Latest OS, M1 MBP

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.1

Thank you for the tip, sorry for the late response, but I have been away, great news is that your solution has resolved my issue. While I couldn't identify which specific email message was the issue i deleted a bunch from around the date when the issue started to occur and it mail started functioning just fine. Thank you again for helping me sort this rather frustrating issue!

I have carried out a clean build using a virtual install of Monterey 12.1 - Exactly the same issue, with console showing continuous SQLite errors.

I have also tried my Mac running High Sierra, and that's fine.

Then I tried a build running Big Sur, and then a build of Monterey but this time 12.0.1 and both work perfectly well.

So definitely an issue with 12.1 and/or Apple's mail servers

I'll follow up my case with Apple, who have already shared my screen but were unable to help much other than say it might "fix itself" if I waited.

It is failing to rebuild because it is trying to insert data that violates a table constraint.

Why it is failing it doesn't say.

Do you often run OnyX? It can cause lots of problems; many more than it can fix.

Create a new user account. Log into it and out of the old.

Set up an email account in the new user. Do you get the same problems on that user?

Try deleting the Envelope Index files in ~/Library/Mail/V9/MailData.

I can't imagine why it would work, but it's the only idea I have.

There is no data stored in an app, so I can't see how that would help. The sqlite database is self-contained and not part of the Mail app. But, I don't know what else is global across all users except Mail itself. Maybe it was corrupted on the upgrade.

Reinstalling the OS should replace that copy of Mail, so probably no need to go to the trouble to remove it--it cannot be removed easily as it is on a read-only volume.

I have exactly the same issue too, and it affects both my iMac and MacBook Pro. Both running Monterey 12.1 and seemingly only affecting my Apple iCloud email account. Which incidentally is fine via iOS, iPadOS and using web mail.

It begun just before Christmas, I contacted Apple Support, who acknowledged that they had suffered an issue with Apple iCloud email, but after remotely viewing my Mac and checking a few things, told me that the issue should resolve after a few days. It hasn't! So I will contact them again in the New Year.

I will try setting up another test Mac from scratch, and see if the issue remains on a clean build.

Thanks for the tip. Same error happens for the new user as well sadly.

I am thinking about wiping the Mail app with Appcleaner or such and reinstall MacOS, log into mail accounts again, that should do it? Is that too risky?

Also, don't use OnyX like a madman, not used it in a while actually tend to just trigger maintenance scripts to run when I do.

I did a clean install again. iCloud remembers my internet accounts so mail would be ready to use them all after entering passwords. Regardless, it was doing the same issue, I repeat after a clean install with my iCloud email enabled only so wow. Tried a couple more accounts as well. Super stuck.

Thanks for sharing, sounds a lot like what I have experienced, I was affected by their outage on that day as well. Let me know what you see with a clean build, I had no luck in Monterrey 12.1, works ok on Big Sur.

I have contacted support as well, my hardware diagnostic didn’t pass, trackpad errors.

As mentioned in another support discussion, the problem seems to be with a specific email. So try to delete the emails from the day it stopped working on the relevant account. Then remove the account from your Mac and re-add it again. After that mail started working again for me.
