Cannot upload FB messenger photos to iphone 12.

I cannot save any FB messenger photos or videos to my iphone 12. There is simply no option to do anything except send it to someone else on messenger. My Galaxy S7 let me. I have looked up advice on line and they all refer to messenger settings that I do not have on this phone. The only setting even close is to save photos that I send someone, not ones someone sends me. I have tried re-sending them and they still do not save. I have "all photos" checked. I can save photos from FB itself, just not messenger.
