What exactly are you doing with your iPhone that you are seeing this message?

For an iPhone to perform automatic backups to iCloud it will require the following in order for them to proceed:

• The iPhone must be connected to a Wi-Fi network that has access to the Internet.
• The iPhone must be connected to power.
• The iPhone's screen must be locked.
