No AirPods Spatial Audio on Mac

I'm on a 2019 macbook running Monterey 12.1 and I cannot see any spatial audio settings for my AirPods 3rd gen. I can see the menu for microphone, auto ear detection and connect to this Mac. The corresponding article says the setting should be in control center under bluetooth, for me there is no sign of spatial audio for the AirPods there or anywhere on the Mac.

Hello cchrrisss_9,

We understand that you are not able to use spatial audio on your Mac. We’d be happy to provide some information.

Spatial audio only works with the MacBook Pro introduced in 2021. The ‘What you need’ section of the article you reviewed lists all the devices compatible with spatial audio.

If this is something you’d like to see changed in the future, then we would encourage you to submit feedback about this here:

Cheers!
