Fall Detection Feature

Good morning all, I trying to understand how the fall detection feature works. Do I need cellular service for it to work? My understanding is that if I fall - notification is sent to ??? and they contact me to see if I need assistance. Is that true? Is there an additional service I need for this contact? Appreciate you help
