The X button that's apparently designed to delete items simply doesn't work. My software is up to date, but no matter. Clicking it multiple times doesn't work. Clicking and holding doesn't work. It seems evident that this function is broken for a certain percentage of OS users. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, that is a known bug. It is working correctly in the newest version on Monterey, but some users are still seeing the problem.
The workaround is to do the deletion on the iPhone. Note that the wishlist is found on your phone in the iTunes Store app, not the Music app.
