can I transfer my apple care to a new device?

I am thinking of trading my iphone 12 for an iphone 13...and want to know if I need to cancel my applecare for the iphone 12 and get a new applecare for the iphone 13 or if I can just transfer adn upgrade my applecare for the iphone 13?

From what I have read in many articles AppleCare+ is attached to the device and not the owner. You can transfer it to the new owner here --> Transfer your AppleCare plan - Apple Support (IN)
