Safari Sidebar Bug

There seems to be a bug with the sidebar button in Safari.

I have the button showing in the toolbar and when I click it to show the sidebar the sidebar appears but the button disappears. So to hide it again you have to either use the keyboard shortcut or go View >>Hide Side Bar.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Safari: 15.2 (17612.3.6.1.6)

Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, I seemed to have found the issue/workaround.

I had a play around with the layout of the toolbar and found that if you move the sidebar button anywhere other than the far left hand side then this causes the issue and it will disappear when the sidebar is visible but remains in place if you leave the button in the default position.

Go step by step and test.

1. Quit Safari, launch Safari holding the Shift key down.

2. Startup in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/start-up-your-mac-in-safe-mode-mh21245/mac.

    Quote:

It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility

And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and

the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed

3. Clear History

    https://support.apple.com/guide/safari/clear-your-browsing-history-sfri47acf5d6/mac

Please read the article before clearing history,

this is like a low level resetting of Safari without affecting passwords and bookmarks.

4. If Safari doesn't open a webpage or isn’t working as expected
