left my iPad on desk overnight and woke up to find cracks all over the screen - in a seemingly random pattern. its never been dropped and I only got it a week ago. can I get repairs for this under warranty since it must be a fault with the screen?

We, just users like you, cannot diagnose that kind of issue remotely. Only Apple technicians (at an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider) can judge, bearing in mind that if you bought it brand new from an Apple Official Channel, you have 14 days (from the date of purchase) to return it and ask for a refund.
