Is it a coincidence my sound stopped working on my Mini Mac on the first day of 2022?

If it an Intel Mac Mini, reset the NVRAM.

Also restart, then check your main volume slider and the slider in Music or whatever app. you’re using.
At is point, it is impossible to say for sure what is happening, without seeing screenshots of your Sound Preferences and Audio MIDI Setup panels.
If the NVRAM reset didn't work, then try resetting the Audio MIDI setup by opening and then quitting Garage Band.

Test a set headphones, speakers or buds in the Mac Mini's audio out port.
Unable to reset NVRAM as not using an Apple keyboard and no Option button.

If I run Adio MIDI Setup I get sounds but nothing when I run anything else.
Tried headphones, no sound.
When first switched on I get the initial sound from the internal speaker but nothing after that.
Also tried a Bluetooth speaker, no sound.
Thanks for your effort, problem solved, finger trouble. I mainly use the mini for YouTube and had it muted. Not the tv mute or Apple sound mute but the YouTube screen mute. Doh!

No problem. I don't do YouTube that much, but have noticed that some YouTube videos are muted out of the starting gate.
