Hi. I have a MacBook Pro retina mid 2013 running Big Sur. Recently I keep having a light gray box with two lines appearing on my desktop randomly. It has a shorter line on top and a longer line at the bottom. It is a 2 inch square and sits about 2 inches on top of the dock. Can anyone help me with this ?

Yes, Big Sur is up to date and meet the gray box is still there.
However, in my frustration, I got a hold of "CleanMyMac"; ran it and the mysterious gray box is gone... well at least for the moment... :).
I will monitor and will come back if this gray box returns to haunt me. I am still trying to figure out what I did, so bad to this gray box, that it has decided to come haunt me in this life... ???
