Any way to fix Watch says “ too many passcode attempts reset Apple Watch and pair again" without reset / erase?

Dealing with my sons watch that he had left in a pocket briefly and triggered this ridiculous security mis-feature. We know the passcode, just need the opportunity to enter it.

If there isn't another way, then this is really a user hostile design and whatever incompetent designed it should be terminated from Apple for cause. They should at least allow a workaround to allow another attempt via the Watch app on the phone the device is paired with.

No, the Apple Watch would need to be erased as seen in this article: If you forgot your Apple Watch passcode - Apple Support The Apple Watch can then be restored from a backup to restore any backed up data to it.

And that is a glaring design flaw. He knew his passcode, we had the device the watch was paired with, and for whatever reason his watch hadn't backed up to iCloud in a week. So, when we ended up spending a ridiculous amount of time following this otherwise needless procedure and lost data due to Apple's design flaw.
