OLDER VERSIONS OF MAC OS

hello all! i was wondering i have a mac book mid 2009 and i recently upgraded my OS from snow loepard, 10. 06.08 , to El Capitan10.11..6, ultimately my goal is to upgrade to High Sierra, 10.12 or 10.13. and im not sure exactly why i cant find the link or maybe u am missing something, im not the deepest level of tech saavy but my general base line knowledge is enough to get me by, although im aware of exterior mount drivers and wrapping packages too boot in other drives but i just wondered i should be able to upgrade straight from a download link from the app store right?> im pretty sure my versions are compatible.. can anyone help me please?
