What does the serial number look like?

I'm not sure if my receipt shows the actual serial number for my new iMac. I've not been able to set up my newiMac because it says the Time Machine has too much information on it to transfer and I'm seeking support to help do that but can't do it without the serial number. What does the serial number look like? How much space is on the iMac? My Time Machine files are 394GB

The Serial Number is located in several places. I will list these in order of simplicity:

  1. Click the in the upper left of the display and then click About this Mac and you will find your serial number. It is in the last line of the Overview tab.
  2. Look on the bottom of the stand, the serial number is there.
  3. Look at the original box the Mac shipped in.

To make migrating from your Time Machine backup External Hard Disk easier the internal storage on the new Mac should be the same size or larger than the old Mac. If your new machine has a smaller capacity than the old machine, return it and buy one with the same or larger storage amount. Then execute the following: Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant. Finally, you do not migrate everything that is on your Time Machine backup External Hard Disk, you only migrate the last backup.

Thanks for your advice. When there wasn't enough space on the computer for the Time Machine info, I just chose Applications to transfer because it was only 17GB. At least this got me started and so then I could find the serial number. Sorry, I did all this before I read your response. I've been waiting for Apple Support Chat to look at my case for the last half hour and the message still says "We'll be with you in 5 minutes." I'm hoping I can just migrate the files I need from Time Machine - just the last backup as you say. So I've got Migration Assistant working and I can choose either 1. Apple 376.15 GB (what does this mean?) 2. Other files and folders 147.5MB 3.System and Networks 93.9 MB Is the last backup in any of these?
