Help me upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I have a 2009 MacBook Pro. It has 10.6.8. I've tried the following:

Installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo V1.1

Installing the Mac App Store Update for OS X Snow Leopard

Downloaded and ran the install for Yosemite and El Capitan - Both completed, neither required restart. I restarted after each and it still says it has 10.6.8.

I'm at a complete loss here. I got the files from the How to get old versions of macOS. The App Store opens now, but it doesn't seem to have anything there. I tried a link for the El Capitan that brings up the App Store, but I get a notice that the store isn't available right now.

I'd greatly appreciate any help!!!

I've followed the instructions in the link and the time/date was all correct (both via the clock and terminal). I still keep getting the error: "This copy of the Install OS X Lion application can’t be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading".

I downloaded on another Macbook and transferred it via file sharing. Moved it into the applications folder. Ran the .dmg. And then tried the Lion install. Same thing.

Any other thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated!
