MacBook Air- (early, 2015) X through battery

I just received my MacBook a few days ago and for some reason my battery will not charge, there is an X through the battery symbol on the log-in screen, and the symbol does not appear at the top of the screen anymore. I have tried both methods in resetting the SMC and NVRAM. Is there any other way I can fix this without having to spend a lot of money?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

First, take a look at Get help with your Mac notebook battery - Apple Support. You can also use Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support. If an issue is flagged, or the issue persists, contact Apple Support: Get Support.

Hope this helps.
