But only Apple and AASPs know how to reconnect all internals, including FaceID. Some have reported their battery now reports incorrect information or not at all after a third-party repair.

But if people buy a 256GB iPhone13 Pro Max and gamble the third-party does not brick it, we cannot stop them.

Thank you I’m gonna try it at Best Buy when I get home

Best Buy? I really wouldn't recommend letting anyone at Best Buy try to work on an iPhone. Apple Stores have much better service.

Also, I'd recommend immediately disclosing that there's an aftermarket screen assembly installed. The disclosure of any non-genuine parts is required and won't result in any surprises later. It's in the terms for general repair.

https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/terms/repair/generalservice/
1.11.6 Disclosure of Unauthorized Modifications. During the service ordering process, you must notify Apple of any unauthorized modifications, or any repairs or replacements not performed by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider (“AASP”), that have been made to your product. Apple will not be responsible for any damage to the product that occurs during the repair process that is a result of any unauthorized modifications or repairs or replacements not performed by Apple or an AASP. If damage results, Apple will seek your authorization for any additional costs for completing service even if the product is covered by warranty or an AppleCare service plan. If you decline authorization, Apple may return your product unrepaired in the damaged condition without any responsibility.

I don't see why it's not worth trying. Is there an issue with your aftermarket replacement screen? The big thing would be if the repair was done incorrectly and there was damage to something else like a connector, the case, or the logic board. Another thing is that they will require an exchange of a screen assembly, whether or not it's damaged or genuine. When Apple or an AASP does the work, they will take responsibility if they damage something even if it means they have to replace the device at their cost (minus the service price).

There are some nuances too depending on what country you're in. In some countries, Apple doesn't actually do what they call "same-unit repairs" - not even battery replacements. So that may complicate things.

But I'd day give it a try and the worst that could happen is that they say no.

Hello ~ I agree with *y_p_w* on the Best Buy situation as going there was worse experience I have ever had with my Apple products! In your case I would encourage you to go in to your Apple Store and tell them about the previous screen repair.

Hello ~ I would have understood that and as I said I am pretty laid back but no excuse for just rude.It was “misplacing” one of my devices twice that did me in. It seems every where is short staffed nowadays and apt to get worse. My Apple store has some of the best people to work with and I enjoy going in though I don’t have to very often. Take care.

There is a car dealer in Ohio that guarantees more than the manufacturer does and lifetime free oil changes ... as long as you have the work done there. Keep the maintenance in a scope they can verify and they have your back.

Third-party people in pop-up spots in the middle of a mall do not have the support system backing every Apple Store.

It already has an aftermarket screen.

But on the wider point it’s not a question of knowing how to repair, it’s whether Apple have managed to successfully prevent owners going where they prefer.

Apple has made public statements that they don't block anyone from accessing third party repair shops.

I would assume so when it comes from Apple's Chief Compliance Officer in written testimony before Congress. I would have thought that he would be in a position to know. That doesn't necessarily mean choosing that option means that Apple will fix any mistakes made by a third party repair shop that botches a job.

Apple does not take any actions to block consumers from seeking out or using repair shops that offer a broader range of repairs than those offered by Apple’s authorized technicians. Customers are free to obtain repairs from any repair shop of their choice.
