Cannot reload Monterey from recovery screen

I am having continual crashes since moving to Monterey - apparently a re-instal will resolve the issue.

My Mac tells me I have 82GB of free space but whenever I try to reload Monterey via the Recovery Screen it says I have 12GB and tells me I need to free up 13 GB or so.

How can this be and how can I resolve this issue to resolve the crashing issue?

Thanks for any help.

What is “Other” storage on a Mac, and how can I clean it out?

The final word from Apple on Managing the " Other " Category

Other: Contains files that don’t fall into the categories listed here. This category primarily includes files and data used by the system, such as log files, caches, VM files, and other runtime system resources. Also included are temporary files, fonts, app support files, and plug-ins. You can't manage the contents of this category. The contents are managed by macOS, and the category varies in size depending on the current state of your Mac.

You need to free up more space. Going into recovery uses disk space.

I would backup you data and then when in Recovery I would erase the startup disk and do a fresh install of Monterey.

Then I would restore you data. If using Time Machine I would only restore via Migration which is a option when you first startup the new Monterey installation. I would only migrate your User and not apps since there may be a problem with some of the older app. I would then reinstall the apps youu need. App data is in your User.
