mac photo

My mac was running so slow. I asked my son who is in IT but not apple what I could do. He said to delete items found on my desk top. I had a file called Photos Library.photoslibrary on the desk top. I was pretty sure it was not my photos library since it shouldn't be on my desk top and it only has 106,496 bytes and my photo library as over 10 gb in photos. So I deleted it. When I tried to get into my mac photo app it couldn't be found. YIKES!

So I went to my trash and put Photos Library.photoslibrary back on my desk top. When I tried to access it I got the message that this file "could not be recognized". YIKES AGAIN!

So I went to my Time Machine backup, went to the date, found this file on the desk top and restored it. When I try to open it, I get the same message.

I don't understand why my library is on my desk top, I don't remember moving it there but there is not photo library in the picture file which is where I would have expected it to be.

Any ideas???

Hold down the option key while starting photos. The resulting pane should list all the libraries on your system. Open each in turn to find the correct library with your photos in.

The deafult location of the photo library on mac is located in path /Users/[username]/Pictures  (where "[username]" is your short user account name).

You can find where your photo library is located by opening the Photos application and pressing Preferences in the menu bar. Ones there, you'll want to click "Show in finder". Here you'll find the current location of the library in finder "form". From here it's as simple as dragging the folder into its correct location (mentioned at start).

I had a simular issue before, where the photo library folder was is the wrong location, and this fixed it for me.

Hope this helps. Let me know if it worked or not, and if you have any additional questions, I'm here to help.

Thanks but I already tried that. That is where I expected to find my photo library but it is not there. I tried moving the photo library that was retrieved from the trash folder to that path and it didn't work. I also tried to move the photo library file that I restored from back up and that didn't work either.

I know my photos are on the computer because the size of data has not changed, I just kind find it. So frustrating.
