Setting up ipad

We have an iPad that we wanted to give to another member of the family. So after erasing the iPad, we started the process when we got to a point we can’t pass. It’s tells us to update some devices, one being the iPad. We can’t seem to “update” them, from either the iPad or our phone. How do we get past this?

Your use of “we” in your first sentence is troubling. Each and every person needs her/his own, unique Apple ID. Each iOS device belongs to one Apple ID - one person. So “we” is a concept that should not appear here.


To check a person’s (an Apple ID’s) devices, go to Settings > [your Apple ID] and note the devices listed at the bottom. Delete any you no longer have.


Also read this and note the prerequisites, such as iOS 15 or later.
