How to Disable Safari Top Hits in search bar on macOS desktop?

I've researched the Internet and have been unable to find a solution to disabling the Top Hits suggestion in Safari on MacOS desktop computers when entering in text in the search bar at the very top of Safari.

I've already cleared my History and disabled all Safari - Preferences - Search check boxes.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Mac mini, macOS 10.14

safari address bar re-opens after search When I search from the address bar in Safari, the address bar opens with a list of autocomplete suggestions generated from my search engine, bookmarks, history, etc. This is very helpful. If I ignore those suggestions and simply hit "enter", Safari loads my search engine of choice to search for that term (which is great and exactly what I want). However, at that point, the address bar re-opens to display suggestions again, which obscures the page! Why in the world would the search suggestions re-open after I have completed a search, and is there any way to disable this behavior?

stop showing top hits in search bar on safari Every time I enter something in the search bar at the top of safari, I get a top hit - see attached image. I have tried everything (including deleting the history in the safari library and clearing all history), but to no avail. Any suggestions to remove this top hits would be appreciated. Thank you.

how to disable safari's "frequently visited" section? how do I stop safari from showing me "frequently visited sites" when I open it. I'm using an M1 iMac 2021, running on MacOS Monterey 12.1. Thanks for reading
