Safari no longer in full screen

what happened to my safari, I swipped up to look at a specific website and now I cannot see anything in full screen. There are bookmarks on the right and the website I'm looking at on the left and the address bar and a few other things at the top. I tried all the buttons and nothing changes. I closed safari and re-opened it and it still looks the same. I even added it to my home screen and I click that link and it looks the same. I really don't use safari much, this is ridiculous to have to go through all this for that, I have spent an hour on this. I can't get that time back. hello why is safari soo difficult?

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks
