Spelling in Mail, OS Monterey v 12.1

How can I stop Spelling? I spell better than it does, and know more. But once I happened to touch on it, it seems I'm stuck with it. Hiding it doesn't help -- it pops up, unbidden.

This is not vital. But like many elements of the Apple system, it really is irritating.

How can I kill it?

You can stop grammar in apple mail by going to edit

Then spelling and grammar

Uncheck anything that is checked there. After that, go to check spelling.

Select never. Try typing in apple mail now. Does it stop correcting you? You will be able to do this by clicking compose new message.
