"find my phone" app was turned off when I lost my iPhone

I lost my phone on Dec 9th. I repair my phone on Nov 14th and came to my notice when I looked for an email that my "find my phone" app was turned off in nov14th. when I file my claim to AIG lost/theft with all the proof they needed they denied it stating that find my app should be on when it's lost. who is supposed to take responsibility for it? It's a waste to buy apple care.

It is your device. It is up to you to follow the requirements for the insurance. So if you did not turn Find My back on after the repair then your the one responsible as you, and only you, can disable and enable Find My on your devices.

My home insurance requires I secure my home when I leave it. If I leave the doors unlocked, that’s on me, not my insurance company.

You had to turn off FindMy, Apple could not do that without your password. It has been my repair experience that FindMy was turned back on post repair.

Nobody can turn it back on for you without knowing your AppleID password. Enabling Find My requires knowing your AppleID password. Thus, only you can both disable it, and enable it.

Neither Apple nor the insurer can enable (nor disable) Find My on your device - only you can.

Find my is tied to your AppleID and it’s password - so only those who know that can enable or disable it.

Apple (nor their partners) has separate nor independent control of your devices nor AppleID account - that is on you, the device owner. Apple cannot re-enable Find My on your AppleID account after a repair. Nor can they turn it off before a repair - only you can.

It doesn't require entering the Apple ID password to turn it on. It's only required to turn it off. Just tried it several times on an iPhone and and iPad as a sanity check. However, I'm still not sure what the deal is here as I've never heard of turning it on as being part of any service requirement. I'm pretty sure that I turned it on myself. Even though they request that users turn off Find My, not everyone has it turned on to being with, and how would they really know unless they had some way to check through the logs?

Also - I looked at my email inbox and saw the turn off notification, but I guess there's no notification of when it's turned on.

But again this is not something where they would seem to have an obligation to turn it on. They handed it back to the OP in working condition and it's up to the user to turn it on (or not).

yes, I cracked my screen fixed on Nov 14th, 2021, and lost on Dec 9th, 2021. when I claim theft/loss that's when I realized my find my phone app was turned off. AIG asked me to look for an email to see when it was turned off and found out it was turned off on nov 14th

Unfortunately you're out of luck because you weren't in compliance with the terms of the theft protection insurance. We get that you find it frustrating.

I've brought in an iPhone for service once and I do remember that I was specifically asked to turn it off, but I don't believe they turned it back on for me.

That is what happened to me. They didn't turn it back or mention me to turn it on. I used it as it is how they game me. They were supposed to mention us to turn it on. To be honest, I didn't even know they turned it off. I will stop here; I'm tired and frustrated looking for how I can get help to get my phone, but it seems like nowhere to find help. I'm tired of spending so much money on an Apple product. I'm done with apple now. Thank you guys for your advice.

I gave my phone to an apple representative he asked me to sign in he did what he need to do. he gave me my phone back I used it as it is. I came to realize that my find my phone app was turned off after I lost my phone. when the AIG representative asked me to look for an email to see when it was turned off it was Nov 14th.

Going through the contract, I'm sure many don't go through 12 or more pages of the contract paper, which I didn't do too, or else I have to sit with a lawyer and go through point to point. But isn't it the responsibility of the apple representative to notify what changes have been made? I changed from android to apple for the phone, and I'm very disappointed with my decision.
