Hi wm-b, thank you for posting on Apple Support Communities.
When you look at the website for Apple Keyboards you will note that it includes a compatibility list of devices used with each keyboard.

You will see that your old iPad Pro Smart Keyboard is compatible with the iPad Air 3rd Gen.
Whereas the Smart Folio Keyboard is compatible with the iPad Air 4th Gen.
Therefore, based on that, it seems unlikely that it is compatible with your iPad Air.
