Monthly challenge on new iwatch

I recently got the iwatch5 on January 7th—it was my wife’s before she upgraded to the 7. She unpaired it from her phone then I set it up on my iPhone. Everything seems fine except I don’t see a monthly challenge for January. Should I have a monthly challenge immediately when I first set the watch up or will I not get one until I’ve used the watch for a while?
