Sim card

I recently broke my old phone which was a Verizon phone with a Verizon SIM card and I got a new phone from my cousin who was a user of sprint and I went to my local Verizon store and they gave me a SIM card. Since then I have switched my phone carrier from Sprint to Verizon and it still tells me that “ sim not supported” what should I do?
