I run a SAMSUNG G9 49" monitor with my M-1 Macbook Air. You need to make sure you have a Thunderbolt 3 to display 1.4 adapter that supports DisplayPort version 1.4 with DSC I use a cable matters adapter. You need to get the latest firmware in the monitor and the lasted MacOS on you computer. It is running at 5120 x 1440 @ 120 HZ with adaptive sync off. I leave it on all the time and I find after about a week it needs reboot as the screen does some weird stuff, (twitches). About once a month I have to pull the monitor power cord and re plug it because the screen won't wake up from sleep. I'm running SAMSUNG firmware version 1013 from Sept 2021. It works but isn't perfect, but at this point I think that has more to do with the monitor than the Macbook Air M-1. Connected to my PC this monitor is awesome for gaming.

I am not able to run 5120x1440 on my Philips 49". I guess is a problem of macOS because windows can easily handle that resolution on the same hardware. Hope they will fix this issue in the close future
I use my 55" 4K tv as a second monitor for work I have no issues at all.
