Activation server is temporarily unavailable
How can I get past this problem on my reasonably old ipad? It does not allow progress

Hi Rickscar, thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.
It is likely your activation server is unavailable – because the server that checks to make sure your device can be activated is likely to be down or it could be a SIM problem.
Regardless, this link that applies to an iPhone experiencing the same issue also applies to an iPad which you may find useful.
