macOS Numbers: How to sum different values in a column based on earlier row input

a bunch of friends and I are about to go on a trip and we're trying to get the finances in proper order.

(See attached image)

The table on top (with header row DISCOVERY; FNB FUEL; CASH) must show us the balance of those accounts. The table on the bottom (with title TRANSACTIONS) is our transaction history.

When a transaction is performed, either money-in or -out, should reflect in the balance table (top) based on what is selected in the ACCOUNT column automatically.

In the balance table (top), DISCOVERY should be R2,210.00, whilst FNB FUEL should be R2,200.00.

What formula can I use to automate the balance table (top)?

Hi JJ,

Assuming you're referring to pasting Badunit's formula, You shouldn't get an error if you follow these steps:

Select the formula, but NOT the = sign. Copy

In Numbers:

Click 0nce on cell A2 of the small 'totals' table to select that cell.

Press = to open the Formula Editor.

Press command-V to paste the formula into the cell.

It should then be displayed like the one below:

Click the green checkmark to confirm the formula and close the editor.

Fill right, as directed in Badunit'spost.

Regards,

Barry
