iPhone 12 Mini is too hot to hold after only 10 minutes.

What’s the deal, Apple? I set up my phone for the first time about an hour ago. I switched from a 12 pro to mini using cloned apps/settings/presets, so nothing new there. I left the phone to update & sync for at least an hour.

When I first used it after iCloud photos messages had downloaded, it was cool to the touch. Less than 10 minutes later, it is very hot. My only open app is safari and only activity has been to log into Reddit and this forum. I plugged it in to charge; could that be the issue?

Either way, it’s the hottest electronic device I’ve held in my hand since the early 00’s. Not cool.

A smaller device will be less able to dissipate heat, so it likely will get warmer.

However, after first setting up a new phone it will heat as all that phone's internal databases need to be rebuilt.

Check back in 24 to 48 hours to see if the heating you describe is still occurring.
