Image mask not working correctly with Compound Clip

I'm having an issue with the image mask effect not masking properly when used on a compound clip. The image mask uses a source clip to mask another clip. However when I use my source clip to mask the compound clip, the mask increases in size and is no longer the size or shape of the source clip. It works fine on a regular clip, the issue is only for compound clips. Is there any thing I can do to fix this and make my image mask stay the same size and shape for the compound clip?

Extra details: The reference clip I'm using is a .png. The size of the .png is the exact size and ratio of the Project. Also I have fiddled with the spatial conform on both the reference clip and the compound clip however still get the same results.
