I recently got off the phone with an apple specialist about my broken iPhone but I was curious to know if the damage is too extensive for a repair will they send an iPhone that is the exact same as the one that is broken, for example, the gigabytes?

It’s supposed to be identical down to each detail including the nominal storage capacity, country code, and even the carrier version (like a Verizon phone in the US will be replaced with another Verizon specific phone). There could be minor differences in storage capacity like there are with all flash based drives.
Replacements can be refurbished or new, and always have a new battery and a screen assembly in good working condition. They’ll have a slightly modified model number that starts with an N.
Well if you get a replacement, because the damage is too extensive, yes they are supposed to replace it with a phone with the same colour and storage size.
