I just purchased my first Apple Watch. It’s never been setup and it’s asking for a passcode. Why

I would take it back and ask them to check it out,all you should see on a brand new watch is the pairing screen,not a passcode request.

It might be a watch that was returned by somebody else,return it and get a refund.

Where did you get this watch from?.
