5k retina 27 inch 2017 screen replacement

Trying to determine exactly which screen to purchase to replace a cracked screen on iMac Retina 5K, 27 inch, 2017.

Long story short, I had a third party (ie, not Apple authorized... I know I know lol. Chastise me later, right now I just need to get my machine back up and operating properly so that I can go back to earning a living! ;) ) upgrade the hard drive to an ssd drive. They cracked the screen upon removing it. They replaced it at their own expense, but it was not completely compatible with the computer. It worked, but made the computer run extremely slowly. In my own research I found that the monitor they replaced it with was apparently for 2014-2015 models so I'm guessing that was the problem.

So before replacing the screen again, I'm trying to be diligent in making sure we get the correct one. I spoke with Apple support for over 30 minutes and Jennifer was super super helpful, but simply could not provide the exact information.

It appears that only Apple authorized repair shops have this "information", but ironically they don't want to do the repair since a third party already worked on the machine.

Bottom line, anyone have experience replacing the screen for this model and can you provide exactly which screen you used?

As of now, this is the best fit we could find online: NUOLAISUN Screen Replacement LM270QQ1 (SD)(C1) for iMac 27" A1419 Mid 2017 EMC 3070 Retina 5K LCD Display Screen Panel + Front Glass Cover with Adhesive

Thank you very much for any assistance!

Gratefully,

If you insist on doing it yourself I'd go to iFixit.com and check out their videos on how to replace the screen of that model and see if they sell replacement screens. Another source for parts is OWC (MacSales.com). They are an excellent accessory source for Macs and might also carry replacement screens. Either source would assure that the screen they sell would be the correct one for you iMac.

Thank you for the reply, but it's not quite that simple. I wish I had a few thousand dollars to upgrade my computer every few years but I don't. This machine is working just fine for me and with the ssd upgrade it is great. The screen won't cost me any money either as the party responsible for its breaking will cover the cost. So ya, a couple hundred dollar screen (or really a couple hundred dollar hard drive) vs a 3 to 4 thousand dollar computer, I'll stay with repairing this one. Just trying to turn to the good folks in this forum who are always very helpful and might have more experience with this than I.

Thank you,

Eric

Thank you Old Toad - iFixit.com does indeed have an excellent tutorial on changing the screen! And believe it or not OWC brought up zero results searching for an iMac screen. Well, I think I'll go with the one I did find online linked in my original post. Again it's the only one I could find that said 2017 so I'll hope for the bets ;)

Thank you very much for your reply,

Eric
