Iphone/Ipad can you get a virus from downloaded file?

Can an Iphone/IPad get a virus/malware/spyware from a file downloaded onto the device?

I had purchased a video online and downloaded it directly to my iphone/ipad into the files folder. Tried playing the MP4 file and it just goes to a screen the has the text MPEG 4 with nothing else happening.

A few days later I discovered from the actual person's Instagram account that their linktree account was hacked and I was not dealing with them.

Do I need to worry about any type of virus, spyware, etc being on my iphone/ipad? Neither Iphone nor Ipad that I attempted to play files on was ever jailbroken.

I'm thinking they wanted to get a quick buck but I still have a concern if my devises were compromised.
