Can I use the apple tv as a homehub/homekit without a homepod?

I have an Apple TV 4K in my apartment, but do not have the ability to control my smart plugs and smart bulbs via the siri remote, where in my house I have an apple tv with home pods around the house and can control my smart plugs and smart bulbs with the siri remote. Do I need to get a HomePod for the apartment to make the similar functions happen?

The Apple TV box can be a home hub, but it doesn’t manage your HomeKit accessories through the Siri Remote nor Siri on Apple TV there. See that as two separate functions. The hub is just the “always there” device that links the accessories to iCloud.

You can manage your HomeKit accessories through the iPhone or iPad or Mac, with Siri and/or the Home app, with the Apple TV box as the hub.
